Nzoia Sugar FC stand-in coach Biko Otere reckons his charges have what it takes to salvage the club from the ruthless jaws of relegation.

The Bungoma-based sugar millers lost 2-0 to Kenya Police at Sudi Stadium over the weekend, further complicating their survival chances in the murky waters of the Kenyan Premier League.

Nzoia have endured a heart-wrenching four-match winless streak in their most recent outings. They dangle precariously in the red zone of the top-tier showpiece, having gleaned a paltry 14 points from 19 encounters.

However, Otere has expressed optimism that they can successfully shake off their torrid campaign to retain the coveted top-flight status next season.

"The league is still far from over. I view it as a marathon as opposed to a sprint. We have more than 10 matches left on the card and we intend to capitalize on them," Otere remarked.

Otere said they rummaged through the ongoing mid-season transfer window to bolster their ranks with resourceful personnel that will help them ameliorate their existing headache.

"We have infused more vigor into the team with new acquisitions. I'm sure you'll start seeing an improved performance beginning next week," he added.

So far the club has landed the signatures of defender Daniel Masengo from Shitaho Soccer in Kakamega, Sharif Ali from top-tier rivals Muhoroni Youth, and striker Obed Wanyonyi from Rosterman United.

Otere revealed the club's blueprint to nurture budding talent capable of holding briefs for the club in future assignments.

"We were not in a financial position to bring in experienced players and opted for youngsters who can be developed to play for us in the future," Otere said.

Nzoia's anxious management threw the gaffer right into the deep end of the stormy waters to help salvage their ship from capsizing. He takes over the reins from former gaffer Godfrey 'Solo' Oduor who got fired last week in the wake of horrendous results.

Otere said he observed an improved performance in their last league assignment against Police which bodes well for their future.

"Compared to past performances, we put up a reasonable show and even managed to contain our opponents throughout the match," Otere remarked.
