Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has lauded his charges after they put up a valiant fight to wring out a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Muhoroni Youth on Sunday.

Benson Omalla blasted the back of the net barely 15 minutes into the encounter to fire K'Ogalo into the lead.

Chris Ochieng then pounced on a sumptuous pass from the right fullback Paul Ochuoga to double the advantage in stoppage time.

"I'm satisfied with the outcome. The boys put up a good fight and we deserved to win by a bigger margin," McKinstry said.

"Getting maximum points away from home, especially against a tough opponent of Muhoroni's calibre is not an easy feat," he added.

The Irish tactician, however, said they will need to work on a few areas of concern that came to the fore in Sunday's encounter.

"We still have some tidying up to do before our next match and we shall be hard at work in our next training sessions," McKinstry said.

Muhoroni Youth head coach Charles Odera said his charges were unfortunate to lose the match.

"I strongly feel we were the better side. I think we were punished after failing to convert the numerous chances we created in the match," Odera said.

The outcome leaves Gor second on the log with 24 points, one adrift of leaders Posta Rangers, who consolidated their position at the top with a resounding 3-1 win over Shabana on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Kenya Police thrashed struggling Nzoia Sugar 3-1 at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma on Sunday.

David Okoth opened the floodgates with a brilliant 29th-minute effort before David "Cheche" Ochieng's rasping shot in the 40th minute propelled the law enforcers further ahead.

Joseph Oyugi reduced the deficit for the Bungoma-based sugar millers with a brilliant effort in the 62nd minute.

South Sudan striker Tito Okello then made it three for Police in the 72nd minute much to the chagrin of the partisan Nzoia supporters, who thronged the stands to roar on the home side.

Elsewhere, Muranga Seal's title aspirations were dealt a huge blow following a 2-1 defeat by the visiting KCB at St. Sebastian Park.

Francis Kahiro fired the bankers into the lead in the 12th minute and Haniff Wesonga doubled the advantage two minutes after the restart.

Batts Awitta's 89th-minute effort proved too late to salvage Seal from their third defeat of the season.

The outcome propelled KCB to third on the log with 22 points, one better than Seal, who are now fourth.
