Leopards pocket Sh2.8m from Mashemeji derby tickets sale

A total of 12, 172 tickets were sold for the match with VVIP going for Sh1,000.

AFC Leopards collected close to Sh3 million from their Mashemeji derby game with arch-rivals Gor Mahia at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani over the weekend. 

The match marked the second instance where AFC Leopards used the new E-ticketing system.

A total of 12,172 tickets were sold during the match played on Saturday, 60 of which were VVIP tickets each retailing at Sh1,000.

Some 666 VIP tickets going for Sh500 were also sold while 1,561 tickets for Terrace A, and 9,885 tickets for Terrace B (regulars) went for Sh300 each.

"We hosted Gor Mahia FC on Saturday at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. A total of 12, 172 tickets were sold for the match and we collected a total of Sh2,838,300," AFC Leopards said in a statement.

Despite the massive support from their fans, Ingwe ended up losing 2-0 to their bitter rivals K'Ogalo.

The goals were scored by FKF Premier League's current top scorer Benson Omalla.

Ingwe officially launched e-ticketing system in the match against Shabana FC held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on October 1, where the pair played to a 1-1 draw.

In that match, Leopards collected an estimated Sh1,426,300 from 6,152 tickets sold.

The club had earlier announced before the match that they would be moving to the e-ticketing system for the remaining league matches as the main mode of stadium access for their fans.

"This technology will help us offer more value to our fans, even as we plan for season tickets and more controls on our platforms. Due to the current set-up of our stadium, we continue to urge our fans to make their way to the stadium early to avoid any entry Inconveniences," the statement from the club read.

The club also indicated that they would increase the ticket validation points on match days to facilitate easy and quick stadium access.

“The club further intends to increase ticket validation points so as to facilitate entry to match venues as well as encourage fans to embrace the technology for the benefit of the club,” the club statement added.
