Benson Omalla’s brace secured a vital win for the defending champions Gor Mahia against their rivals AFC Leopards in the 97th Mashemeji derby meeting played at the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani on Saturday.

A well-calculated pass from Austin Odhiambo in the 22nd minute found Omala, who slotted it past the oncoming Leopards' keeper.

Omalla struck yet again in the 56th minute when Patrick Sibomana's low pass allowed him to tap the ball into an empty net.

The match ended in a 2-0 win for Gor Mahia with Igwe fans chanting out loud “Juma must go” after conceding the second.

Omalla continued his rich vein of scoring form, taking his tally this season to six goals and clear in the Golden Boot hunt.

Gor kept their composure solidifying their number two spot as they looked to defend their title. Leopards, on the other hand, continued on their dry spell, going for their sixth winless match and pressure piling on head coach Tom Juma.

Leopards have so far drawn four times and lost two matches against KCB and now Gor. They sit in position 17 with four points.

K'Ogalo have now exerted their revenge against their bitter rivals following their last meeting, where they fell to Ingwe

The last meeting between the two on May 14 at the Nyayo National Stadium saw Leopards emerge victorious through goals from Victor Omune and Maxwell Otieno.

Ingwe will take on Bandari next on October 22 at the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa whereas defending champs Gor will have a tough encounter against Tusker on October 21 at Kasarani.

All eyes are now set on Ingwe to see what the fate of their coach Juma will be in the coming days after the poor run of results.
