The 2023/24 National Super League will kick off on September 16, the Football Kenya Federation announced on Tuesday.

Luanda Villa, Nairobi United and Rainbow FC will make their second-tier league bow.

Villa will host Mombasa Elites at Mumboha grounds while United will face Kibera Black Stars at Ligi Ndogo grounds. Rainbow will welcome Darajani Gogo at Camp Toyoyo grounds in Nairobi, according to the fixtures released on Tuesday.

Nairobi United chairman Samuel Maina said his team will start pre-season training on Sunday at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho in Kisii.

“The team will arrive on Saturday and hit the ground the following day. We want to have intensive preparations because our target is to join the Kenyan Premier League after one season,” said Maina.

Mathare United will set their eyes on gaining promotion back to KPL after being relegated from the top tier for the first time in their history. They face Migori Youth, who will be eager to master yet another strong season as they have another stab at promotion.

Migori came close to achieving promotion in the 2022/23 season but fell short after falling to Wazito in the FKFPL/FKFNSL promotion playoff.

Last season’s KPL promotion hopefuls, Mara Sugar, will launch their campaign away to Coastal Heroes.

Twenty teams will contest in the FKF-NSL with two gaining automatic promotion while the third-placed team will go through a promotion playoff. The three bottom-placed sides will be relegated to the third tier.

Shabana and Murang’a Seal gained direct promotion to the Kenyan Premier League in the just-concluded season.
