Thika Queens will miss the services of at least five players when they face off Vihiga Queens this weekend in the Women's Premier League match at the Mumias Sports Complex.

The former champions will be without Lonah Nyarinda, Lorenita Lupemba, Rachael Muema, Wendy Atieno and Shau Neema for the nerve-racking clash with the inform four-time champions Vihiga.

Thika have lost the last two matches. They were outclassed by Ulinzi Starlets as the soldiers produce a five-star performance in the 3-0 win a fortnight ago.

The team suffered a 4-1  heart-wrenching loss to Wadaida last weekend.

"We have more than five players on the treatment table. That has really affected our performance in the last few matches," Fredrick Chege, chairman of Thika Queens told the Star.

Chege, at the same time, confirmed the return of Benta Achieng as head coach. Achieng has been away because of other commitments according to Chege. She replaces Fred Majani who was appointed on interim basis following the departure of Joseph Oyoo early in the season.

Achieng guided Thika to WPL glory in 2021.

"Achieng returns to her farmiliar surroundings. She has been with the team through thick and thin as a player and coach," Chege added.

Majani's last match was against Ulinzi and conspicuously missed the match gainst Wadadia.

"We did not sign a contract with Majani. He was our goalkeeper trainer but we elevated him to take charge of the team because we lacked option. He continues in his capacity," Chege affirmed.
