Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry believes the record champions possess the mojo to add a 20th topflight trophy to their collection this season.

The traditional Kenyan Premier League behemoths face Bandari this afternoon at Moi Stadium, Kasarani and the Irish manager reckons a win will put them on course for another title.

"Gor is a massive club that should be competing for titles, whether it's the league title or the FKF Cup," McKinistry said.

He has urged his players to hit the gas pedal early in the season to keep their opponents at bay.

"Our target in the first half of the season is to be competitive and get into January at the top of the table. If we can open a six-point gap,we'll be in a good position to contend for the title," McKinstry said.

With the transfer embargo imposed on the club by Fifa about to end, McKinstry has put his players on notice, asking them to prove their worth before the January window.

“The current crop of players have an opportunity to prove to the technical bench that they deserve to be part of the club's long-term plans,” McKinstry said.

“If we bring in new players in January and we are within reach of the top of the table, then we can push on in the second half of the season. We have told the players that they need to show their quality and convince us that we need to stick with them."
