Bungoma county is set to compete with teams from neighbouring Uganda in football tournaments.

The games will take place at Bishop Wabukala Secondary School in Sirisia Constituency, Bungoma West subcounty.

The match has been sponsored by assistant county commissioner Cleophas Koech, the business community and sponsors from abroad.

Speaking on Sunday at Bishop Wabukala Secondary school during the launch of the mega tournament, Koech said eight teams from Bungoma are lined up to compete in the tournament.

He said the tournament also aims to implement President William Ruto’s talent search, affirming that such avenues grant players an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“Let us take this tournament seriously as it is one of the ways to boost our talents and give you avenues to showcase your talents, you never know who is watching you,” he said.

Koech lauded the partners who accepted to support the tournament saying that he is still engaging others.

“We have started with football but in future, I’m planning to expand it to include basketball and indoor games so that every individual can get a chance,” Koech said.

Koech said he aims at getting teams from Bungoma that will play at the regional and national level to represent the county.

“At the end of this games I would have gotten teams that will participate at the regional and national level,” he said.

Laban Omonya, the tournament chairman said Bungoma has a lot of talents but many withered along the way due to lack of support.

The finals will be played on December 26, 2022.
