In Summary

Kayole Starlets risk withdrawing from the 2022-23 Kenya Women's Premier League season owing to financial problems.

Coach Joshua Sakwa said the 2021-22 season that concluded in June was their worst on and off the field because of the litany of challenges the team had to cope with.

"We don't want to see a repeat of what transpired last season. I can assure you if this league will not have sponsorship, we have no business being part of the competition," Sakwa bullishly stated.

"Our financial inadequacies are well documented. Since the withdrawal of Rolling Cargo as our sponsor, we have suffered as a team. Logistical challenge was our biggest undoing and there's no way you can run a team without cash."

"The money disbursed by the Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee was insufficient," he added.

Sakwa added that the club still has last season's pending bills. "Players are yet to receive their allowance for two matches. We owe Stima Club some money for using their ground. We don't want to spoil the relationship we have had with them and this means we must clear the arrears as soon as possible."

The season was without drama for Kayole who had to seek justice in court to have their relegation status overturned. The ugly scenes witnessed in their away match against Kitale's Trans-Nzoia Falcons were another low for the team.

The protests experienced at Stima Club by fans after Kayole went down 1-0 in the 75th minute against Kisumu All-Starlets summed up Kayole's weird season.

"We arrived at Kitale Showground where our match was to be played against the hosts only to be notified the venue had been changed. This is despite referees being on the ground and this really affected the players mentally."

He added: "We lost against Kisumu but the match did not end as fans disrupted the proceedings. Three days later, the Caretaker Committee informed us we had lost the points, a decision we protested and sought justice in court."

The youthful tactician added: "Unless things look up this time round, we would rather play in the county league where we won't have logistical challenges."
