Vihiga Queens face an arduous task of rebuilding their squad following the departure of another high-profile player, defender Vivian Nasaka,  who signed a one-year deal with Turkish Top tier side Hakkarigucu Spor on Wednesday.

The right-back joins the growing list of players who have decamped from Vihiga in search of green pastures including Jentrix Shikangwa, Tereza Engesha, Topista Situma, Lilian Awuor and Enez Mango.

Vihiga have lost the spine of their Cecafa Club Championship title-winning squad, a year after defying odds to win the inaugural competition on home soil.

Nasaka, who was named in Kenya Footballers Welfare Association KEFWA team of the year 2021, was a mainstay in the team for the last five years.

"We wish her well in her future endeavors," said Queens' coach Boniface Nyamunyamu. "We have plenty of cover in her position. Robai Kebedi, Philisters Kadari and Alice Mideri can all play there. Don't forget Janet Bundi has deputised in the position before."

Nasaka, 23, headed for trials a month ago where she could be an asset for her new club now that she can be deployed as centre back or right back. She formed a formidable partnership alongside Phoebe Owiti at the heart of Queens' back-line in their unbeaten run to the Cecafa trophy as well as the WPL title in June.

"A player of her qualities will be missed but we will always have a solution to every problem that arises," said Nyamunyamu.

Nasaka has won four Premier League titles. She was also part of the team to the CAF Women's Champions League competition staged in Egypt last year.

Meanwhile, Vihiga have roped in Ivy Makokha, Edith Asangire, Monchari Wansato, Diana Sigei, Anita Namata and Eunice Musia.
