LITMUS TEST

Liverpool and Chelsea to struggle, City to dominate Spurs

Four months on after the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, the Reds are yet to recover.

In Summary

• A 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the league and another deafening 4-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli has exposed Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.

• Tottenham just like City, are on 14 points on the log and very little separates the two. Antonio Conte might be thinking “why not this time round?”

Last season, Liverpool were so close to winning a quadruple, they ended up winning only two domestic trophies, losing the coveted Premier League and Champions League titles.

Four months on after the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, the Reds are yet to recover.

A 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the league and another deafening 4-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli has exposed Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool. Are they in for another disappointing season?

Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers(Saturday 5 pm)

My prediction 2-1

Another litmus test for the Reds. Last weekend, they dropped points at Goodison Park against rivals Everton and could not help themselves in the midweek Champions League fixture against Napoli.

A resounding 4-1 defeat made Klopp realise that a shadow is a reflection of oneself and he went on to say: “We have to reinvent ourselves!”

They are facing a Wolves side that has only one win this season and will be aiming at biting the already wounded Liver bird.

A depleted midfield and comical defending haven’t helped Liverpool’s course and Ruben Neves can ‘smell blood’ in this fixture. However, the return of Thiago Alacantara, the clearance of Arthur and the return of Darwin Nunez could spring some hope for the Reds. In this one, expect a long afternoon for the Reds but they will have all three points at the end of the day.

Chelsea vs Fulham(Saturday 2:30 pm)

My prediction (1-1)

While Chelsea’s rivalry with Fulham goes a long way, this promises to be a cracker of a match. The Blues are in shambles; embarrassed in the Champions League and sacked their manager, Thomas Tuchel, on Wednesday morning, nothing surprises me again.

From Champions League winners two seasons ago to Premier League strugglers, the new manager must find a way of resolving Chelsea’s problems quickly.

Fulham have produced some memorable moments this season including that famous 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the season opener. A narrow 2-1 loss to leaders Arsenal also showed their quality and getting a result against Chelsea won’t be a surprise to many, myself included. Will the new signings help the Blues? Can Willian come back to haunt his former employers? Enyewe ogopa, early kick-off!

Manchester City vs Tottenham Saturday (7:30 pm)

My prediction 3-1

Many predicted a slow start for Erling Haaland but guess what, he’s already on double figures in the Premier League and bagged a brace against Sevilla in the Champions League.

As the likes of Darwin Nunez and Gabriel Jesus (both have three goals and one assist in the league this season) struggle to find the back of the net, Haaland is proving his worth and he will continue to do so, if you were to bet on an anytime goal scorer, look no further.

Tottenham just like City, are on 14 points on the log and very little separates the two. Antonio Conte might be thinking “why not this time round?”

Harry Kane has had a blistering start to the season and his partnership with Heung-min Son and Richarlison should at least stretch Ruben Dias and John Stones. I expect both teams to find the back of the net.
