Gor Mahia first-choice custodian Gad Mathews holds the record Kenyan champions are firmly in contention for this season's title despite being 11 points adrift of runaway leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.

K'Ogalo will flex muscles with Wazito at Narok Stadium on Saturday and Mathews believes a win over the moneybags will put them back on course for a 20th title.

Gor are currently fourth on the log with 38 points and a win over Wazito could propel them to second.

“We still have more than 10 matches left and considering our current position on the table, I believe anything is possible,” Mathews said.

“We only need to bag maximum points from our remaining fixtures and hope that our opponents stumble.”

Elsewhere, newly appointed Kenya Police head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' faces his second major test of the season against AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

The law enforcers head into the encounter high on confidence after a reassuring 2-0 win over Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia at Moi Stadium, Kisumu last Tuesday.

Police are 11th on the log with 27 points, one spot above Leopards, who have been blowing hot and cold this season.

Despite investing heavily in a star-studded list of new signings, the law enforcers have experienced a lackadaisical run in their maiden top-flight appearance.

The torrid start to the season claimed the scalp of veteran tactician John Bobby Ogolla a fortnight ago, with former Gor Mahia assistant coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo taking over the role of head coach at the club.

Omollo reckons he has gathered sufficient expertise over the years to power the law enforcers to a respectable finish in the cutthroat competition.

“Coaching is all about knowledge and I believe I have accumulated sufficient experience during my years with various top-flight sides including Posta Rangers and Gor Mahia. I intend to use this to the advantage of the club,” said Omollo.

“We have some brilliant players in the squad who have the capacity to turn around the fortunes of the club. They only need to be guided in the proper way.”

The tactician showered his predecessor with rosy words.

“Ogolla is an experienced coach who did a good job in the short time he was in charge of the club. I hope to build on the foundation he established,” said Omollo.

Ogolla was sent packing after presiding over 21 league matches. He guided the club to a historic top-flight promotion following an inspiring win over Vihiga United in the hotly contested playoffs.

Australian Lukas Tott who served as the team’s technical director has also been shown the door.
