TOUGH OUTING

Champions KPA in Eldoret for tricky ties

Unbeaten Strathmore University Swords, who are fifth, play two matches against United States International University (USIU) Flames before meeting third-placed Hawks.

In Summary

• Positive results will push the Dockers up the league table but they are aware that their hosts— Eldonets and Eldonets Platinum — will be no pushovers in front of their fans.

National champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are in Eldoret where they take on home teams in two tricky Kenya National Basketball League matches at the Uasin Gishu Primary School courts.

Positive results will push the Dockers up the league table but they are aware that their hosts— Eldonets and Eldonets Platinum — will be no pushovers in front of their fans.

Coach Anthony Ojukwu, who led KPA women to a silver medal at the Africa Championships in Egypt, said the team is already shaping up well after a long break. A win will move them top with 18 points, one more than leaders Storms.

“The players are in good shape, and I expect a good game this time. We have two games to finish our first lag fixtures and are eyeing a number two slot in the log if we win.” said the long-serving Ojukwu.

A win will see KPA men topple Ulinzi Warriors at second on 20 points. Coach Sammy Kiki said they are aware of the threat their opponents pose. They will take the game seriously.

“Eldonets are playing at home and they normally come strongly against the big teams. However, I am confident we will overcome them if the boys follow instructions,” said Kiki.

Unbeaten Strathmore University Swords, who are fifth, play two matches against United States International University (USIU) Flames before meeting third-placed Equity Bank Hawks.

Swords coach Ronny Owino said they will take one game at a time even as they struggle with injuries. The varsity side have won all their seven games so far.

“We will rely on transition. USIU play well with some good players and Equity are a very experienced team,” said the veteran tactician.

Zetech University Sparks, another of the three unbeaten teams, face Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers in a game they are expected to win.

Bottom-of-the-table Kenyatta University Pirates meet USIU Tigers. Coach Caleb Osewe said their opponents will have it rough as he promised tactical changes.
