Seasoned tactician Benard Mwalala has landed a new coaching role at Kenyan Premier League side, KCB.

Mwalala joins the bankers on a one-year contract from rivals Ulinzi Stars where he served since 2022 after walking out on top-flight rivals Kakamega Homeboyz over unresolved issues.

KCB assistant coach Geoffrey "Solo" Oduor also confirmed he had severed ties with the bankers to concentrate on his new role as Harambee Starlets' head coach.

"There is nothing more to hide. It's true KCB have a new technical bench. Mwalala has already penned a deal as the new KCB coach alongside Elvis "Valdo" Ayany who will serve as his deputy," Oduor said.

"I'm equally leaving to concentrate on national duties," Oduor added.

Mwalala's former employers Ulinzi Stars confirmed his departure and hailed him for his professionalism during his time with the Langata-based soldiers.

"It is with mixed emotions that we inform you of the resignation of our beloved head coach, Bernard Mwalala.

"He has played an instrumental role in shaping our team, leading us to numerous victories, and fostering a culture of dedication, teamwork, and excellence.

"We are deeply grateful for the contributions made by him and the impact he has had on our players, staff, and team as a whole," Ulinzi said in a statement.

"Thank you for being the heartbeat of our team. Together, we will continue to strive for greatness."

Vincent 'Moriero' Odhiambo, who served as one of Mwalala's deputies in the preceding season, has been handed a temporary role as the club looks for a suitable replacement.

"The Ulinzi Stars management wishes to announce the appointment of Vincent Moriero Odhiambo, a dedicated and talented member of our coaching staff, who will be taking charge on an interim basis.

"He has also been an integral part of our team for several seasons and has worked closely with Bernard Mwalala and other several coaches gaining invaluable experience and insights into our playing style, strategies, and team dynamics."

A highly-placed source at Ulinzi said they had already opened talks with some of the best coaching talents in the country, including former Police head coach Sammy" Pamzo" Omollo who has been unattached after parting ways with the law enforcers earlier in the year.

Omollo was one of the three coaches shortlisted for the KCB job alongside Mwalala and Harambee Stars Under 18 head coach Stanley Okumbi. With the bankers having already settled on Mwalala, Omollo is still available for the Ulinzi job.
