The hunt for a new coach has earnestly begun at Kenyan Premier League side KCB with seasoned tactician Zedekiah Otieno set to leave at the expiry of his contract.

A highly-placed source at the club said three gaffers have been shortlisted to fill the vacant position ahead of the new season.

Those identified for the role include Ulinzi Stars head tactician Bernard Mwalala, Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo, formerly with Kenya Police, and Kenya Under-18 head coach Stanley Okumbi.

The move is part of an ambitious plan to revamp the technical bench as the club embarks on rejuvenated aspirations for a maiden topflight title.

"The board will converge soon to conclude the selection process," the source said on condition of anonymity. There are growing concerns about the team's trophy-less cabinet and the general feeling is that the technical bench should be overhauled to give other people a chance to steer the club to the desired heights," the source added.

Despite plunging vast resources into the last two transfer windows, the bankers placed a disappointing fifth on the log with 64 points in the concluded season.

The bankers' clamour for a maiden trophy has proved elusive four years after snatching Otieno from traditional giants Gor Mahia where he served as an assistant coach.

"We can't wish away our thirst for the title. We've twice come close but it's high time we embellished our cabinet with silverware. We are not comfortable with our current situation.

"The trio of Mwalala, Omollo, and Okumbi beat a rich field of candidates to crack the final list.

"Several coaches including some foreigners expressed interest in occupying the position. We already have a talent-laden squad and all we need is an experienced coach to help us in fulfilling our objective of clinching our first top-flight title."

"The three coaches who made the final list have already displayed they have what it takes to succeed.

"They are all experienced having successfully handled clubs at this level. KCB is said to prefer a coach who is well-versed in the local football terrain.

"We prefer a local coach who already knows our squad members well enough because we intend to continue with the current crop of players," said the source.

Otieno, a former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars defender took over the reins on June 10, 2019, replacing Frank Ouna.

The club said the transition was part of the changes meant to strengthen the team with sights trained on a top-four finish. He has previously managed Harambee Stars, Posta Rangers, and Gor Mahia.
