Moraa, Omanyala to face stiff competition in Monaco

Commonwealth Games 800m champion, Mary Moraa will continue her preparations for the upcoming World Championships in Budapest by competing in the Monaco Diamond League on July 21.

The two-lap specialist will face stiff competition from Olympic and World 400m hurdles champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of the USA.

Moraa heads to the EBS Herculis Meeting on the back of an impressive performance which saw her set a new 400m national record of 50.38s during the national trials last weekend.

McLaughlin-Levrone on the other hand, clocked a world-leading 48.74 last weekend to win the US 400m title. Moraa will be aiming to continue her fine form in the Diamond League outings having won the Rabat and Lausanne meetings.

The two will battle a quality field led by NCAA indoor champion Britton Wilson, NCAA outdoor champion Rhasidat Adeleke, European silver medalist Natalia Kaczmarek and US 400m hurdles champion Shamier Little.

Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinard Omanyala will feature in his specialty against a Jamaican duo of Ackeem Blake and Thompson Kishane, Akani Simbine of South Africa, Botswana's Letsile Tebogo and Lindsey Courtney of USA.

Double world record holder Faith Kipygon will test her speed in the one-mile race against Olympic silver medalist Laura Muir.

The world under-20 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi will headline a quality field in the two-lap race. He will compete against compatriot Wycliffe Kinyamal, Canada's Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati of Algeria.

Elsewhere, world silver medalist Jacob Krop will battle it out against world leader Berihu Aregawi, World cross-country champion Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda and Spain's Mohammed Katir in the 5000m race.

Abraham Kibiwott and Simon Koech will face the World and Olympic steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali and Ethiopia’s Getnet Wale in the specialty.
