Omanyala turns focus to next month's Monaco Diamond League

After winning defending the national 100m title at the Athletics Kenya National Championships at Nyayo Stadium, Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala is now targeting a first Diamond League title in Monaco on July 21.

Omanyala, who was competing at Nyayo alongside his wife Laventa Amutavi and sibling Isaac Omurwa, said he will take a break from competition to recover and then prepare for Monaco.

Omanyala won the 100m final title in 9.96.

Representing the National Police Service, the Africa 100m champion said that he was aiming to get back on his heels to dig deep into the sub-10 seconds, which he achieved.

 “For now, I will take a break ahead of the Monaco Diamond League on July 21 in France. I have achieved my target and I have to celebrate it,” said Omanyala after beating Kenya Defence Forces' Meshack Babu (10.50) and Kenya Prisons' Hesbon Oching (10.58).

Kundu, the reigning East and Central Africa under 20 100m champion, had lost to his elder brother in the semifinals.

Representing Eastern region, Kundu finished 4th in the second heat semifinal by clocking 10.79 behind winner Omanyala ( 10.06 ), Kenya Defence Forces' Robinson Motende ( 10.63 ) and Ugandan Tyson Juma (10.67).

Also representing Eastern, Amutavi finished third in Heat 4 in the qualifying round, clocking 12.22, before exiting the competition with a fourth-place finish (12.45) in the semifinals.
