World record holder in 10km Rhonex Kipruto has been provisionally suspended by Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for the use of a prohibited substance/method.

AIU accused Kipruto of violating the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).

The fundamental principle of the ABP is to monitor selected biological variables over time that indirectly reveal the effects of doping, rather than attempting to detect the doping substance or method itself.

His suspension comes a day after another Kenyan Nicholas Kosimbei was suspended over the use of a prohibited substance.

Kipruto set the world record of 26:24 in Valencia three years ago.

He won a bronze medal in the 10,000m at the 2019 World Athletics Championships.

The 23-year-old is the 2018 World Under-20 10,000m champion.
