The fifth Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country weekend meeting has been brought forward to December 3 due to the stringent timelines of the visa application to Australia as guided by World Athletics.

The meet was initially set for December 10 but AK had to reschedule the dates because the deadline to apply for the visa is on December 11. It is noted that the processing of the visa takes at least two months, leading to the change of the previous cross-country calendar.

The meet will feature the 2km (both men and women), Under 20 women's 6km, Under-20 men's 8km, 10km (senior men and women), and mixed relay.

Meanwhile, AK have also introduced the trials for next year’s World Cross Country Championships which will take place on December 10 at the Kenya Prisons Training College in Ruiru.

AK noted that participants will be strictly on invitation. The athletes will be sampled from all five cross-country weekend meetings and other international competitions.

The trials will include 2km (both men and women), Under 20 women 6km, Under-20 men 8km, 10km (senior men and women), and mixed relay.

The selection criteria for the Under-20 women 6km, Under-20 men 8km, and 10km senior women and men will be based on the first six athletes across the line.  The seventh and eighth athletes will be selected as reserves.

The 2km senior women and men events will be used to select the mixed relay team. This will see the first three athletes across the finish line secure automatic slots.  The fourth and fifth athletes will be selected as reserves.

AK also advised all athletes invited for trials to carry their travel documents and a Covid 19 vaccination certificate. The dates for the county, regional and National Cross-Country Championships have not changed.
