The national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, is set to battle hosts France, Colombia and Mexico in the Challenger Cup set for Laval, from July 25-31.

The Kenya Queens are expected to start training this week at the Moi International Stadium, Kasarani Indoor Arena.

The 20-member provisional squad was named on May 31 at Riadha House, Nairobi.

Malkia, captained by Mercy Moim, is expected to leave for more than a month of training in Morocco in the middle of the month.

Malkia is the only African team to benefit from the International Volleyball Federation FIVB program.

Last year, Malkia attended a one-and-a-half month training in Brazil before heading to the World Championships that was co-hosted by the Netherlands and Poland.

Malkia will hope to win matches in the Challenger Cup to accrue points and enhance their chances of qualifying for the Volleyball Nations League VNL.

After doing duty in France, Malkia will head to the Africa Nations Volleyball Championships that will be held in Cameroon.

Only the winner of the ANC books an automatic slot for next year's Paris Olympic Games.
