BANKERS' STRATEGY

KCB to tread cautiously at African show, says Munala

Speaking in the northeastern town of Nabeul, Munala said their strategy is “to take one step at a time”.

In Summary

• “It’s still early days and not the time to say or predict how it’ll go in Nabeul. It is quite right, of course, to take one step at a time,” he quipped.

•Elsewhere, Kenya Pipeline (KPC) defeated MCA from Algeria 3-1 (25–21, 20–25, 25–18, 25–21) in Monday’s Pool ‘C’ match, their second win from two matches. KCB and Pipeline now have two wins each after two matches.

Despite being one foot in the round of 16 of the 2023 Women’s African Club Championship in Tunisia, KCB coach Japheth Munala is still wary of a rough road ahead.

The bankers are set to face Senegal’s Asac Salitique in their final Pool ‘B’ match this afternoon with Munala seeking to add to their straight-set victories over Cameroon’s Nyong Et Kelle Volleyball Dames (25-7, 25-20, 25-16) and National Alcohol of Ethiopia (25-20, 25-12, 25-9).

Speaking in the northeastern town of Nabeul, Munala said their strategy is “to take one step at a time”.

“We’ll build more consistency from set to set and from match to match,” said Munala.

KCB are seeking back-to-back titles in the continental showpiece which started last Friday.

“It’s still early days and not the time to say or predict how it’ll go in Nabeul. It is quite right, of course, to take one step at a time,” he quipped.

“It’s been good for us so far and we are hoping to win the next match in the pool, against the Senegalese team on Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, Munala revealed he has been impressed by some of his players, including Pauline Chemutai.

“Standards have been set and only the sky’s the limit,” Munala concluded.
