Kenya Swimming Federation hope to use national trials this month to select three teams for various international assignments.

The trials slated for May 20-21 at Kasarani will be used to pick teams for the World Championships in Fukuoka in July, the World short course Championships in Israel (September) and the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago (August).

FINA Kenya Stabilisation secretariat team leader, Michael Otieno, said they will not be sending a team to this month's Cana Zone IV championships in Angola due to unavoidable circumstances.

"We had no time to prepare a team for the Angola event and secondly, the majority of the swimmers who we intended to pick from are Muslims and were undertaking Ramadhan for the better part of April, so we opted not to send a team,” observed Otieno.

Otieno urged swimmers to turn up for the trials in three weeks' time if they hope to make any of the teams to international assignment.

“I'm asking all the swimmers whether they are here or abroad to come and compete and get an opportunity to represent the country in these events,” noted Otieno.

Otieno said with a two-month grace period to train and prepare, he is confident the teams that will be selected will do the country proud in the championships entered.

“We have good quality swimmers across all age groups and we hope  following the trials they will be training for two months and do the country proud in those three events,” said Otieno

On the long-awaited elections, Otieno said the secretariat will soon announce a timetable for the elections which must be held before the end of June

“ We are aware that World Aquatics will not extend the deadline so the notice will come out soon and the process towards the election date will be announced hopefully in the next couple of weeks,” added Otieno.
