Kenya Prisons women's volleyball team have their fingers crossed on their prospect of participating in the African Club Championship in May.

Tunisia has been selected as the host nation for both the men's and women's 2023 showpiece.

The men's assignment is set for May 9-22 while the women's showpiece will take place from May 13-26.

The North African country will host the continental competition for the third consecutive year having successfully staged the 2021 and 2022 editions in the cities of Kelibia and Tunis, respectively.

"We are yet to receive communication from the management but we are optimistic that we will be given chance once again," Josp Barasa, The Kenya Prisons coach said.

Barasa's comments come in the wake of the General Service Unit GSU men's team confirming that they won't be part of this year's edition due to financial challenges.

Last year, the wardresses finished fifth in Tunis. The team last won the continental crown in 2013.

Women's national league defending champions Kenya Pipeline finished third in the African tournament as KCB were crowned champions  courtesy of 3-1 set win over Egypt's Al Ahly

"Mentally the players are prepared and ready anytime they are called upon. We would like to better the fifth position we managed last year. We want to return to the top where we used to be," Barasa added.

Barasa said their resurgence this season is a result of the availability of all the players, something that was lacking in an error-strewn  performance last season.

"We have a fully fit squad. All the players are back and we are spoilt for choice. We missed a lot of players last season because of family matters but we now ave a boisterous squad."
