Uasin Gishu county partners with schools to promote sports

The County Government of Uasin Gishu through its Department of Youth and Sports is working with the Kenya Schools Sports Association to nurture sports talents among young learners.

The partnership seeks to ensure the production and supply of sports talents for programs like the World Youth (Athletics) Championships, World Junior (Athletics) Championships and under 18 football among other programs for young sports persons.

Speaking as she hosted officials Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association heads, County Executive for Sports, Lucy Ng’endo said: “The county welcomes these partnerships as we look at raising and supporting talents from the grassroots,” said Ng’endo.

She said Uasin Gishu has the capacity to dominate national teams owing to its immense talent.

The program, she added, will come in handy in ensuring there are no gaps when sports persons graduate from the junior ranks.

Uasin Gishu and Eldoret town in particular will continuously be in the national sporting limelight for another two months, hosting the Term One Secondary Schools Regional Games on April 4 – 9, the nationals on April 21 – 28 and the National Para Volley Trials from May 17-20.
