Fresh from defending his Scrabble on The Nile, the Uganda Scrabble Association (USA) title in Jinja, Uganda, Kenyan Allan Oyende now wants to dominate the local scene in the New Year.

To retain his title, the second seed edged out Kenya One Gitonga Nderitu in the decider.

Oyende, from Stima Club in Nairobi, his major target in playing in the local tournaments is to make Team Kenya to next year's international events including East, Central and Southern Africa (ECASA) in Uganda and the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPAC) qualifiers.

“I am done with 2022 and my focus now shifts to local tournaments as I seek to earn a slot for 2023 ECASA and WESPAC Championships,” said Oyende, adding that he will seek to play in many more tournaments as build up.

Oyende said winning the tournaments meant he headed the year in fantastic fashion.
