Kenya's Allan Oyende jetted out of the country on Friday on a mission to defend the Scrabble Association of Uganda tournament dubbed the Nile Scrabble competition set for Jinja Uganda.

The second seed will be joined by other Kenyan players in Jinja in the battle for the title against hosts in one of the most competitive scrabble tournaments in East Africa.

Oyende, who recorded victory at the Scrabble Kenya Nairobi tournament on Sunday, won the Ugandan event last year.

The Stima Club player, who won 16 out of 18 games to emerge victorious said that he will be chasing the Jinja title after enjoying a good run in both Kenya and Uganda.

“I have played well in both Kenya and Uganda and heading to Jinja, I want to do my best to bag good points,” said Oyende.

He added that this will be his last tournament this year as he plans to lead Team Kenya to retain the East, Central and Southern Africa Scrabble (ECASA) championships come next year.

“I want to extend my dominance in the tournament and as a defending champion, it comes with all manner of challenges but I will overcome,” said Oyende.

At the Nairobi Invitational, Oyende vowed to extend his scrabble clinics to universities in his effort towards growing the numbers of youth players.
