Wazalendo coach Francis Kimanzi has finally opened up on his decision to return to the dugout at the club.

the tactician has been away with the national team for more than two years.

The team's poor performance this season and a lack of playing identity were tough to take for Wazalendo under the guidance of coach Joseph Njogu.

Kimanzi, who propelled Wazalendo to a second place finish in 2019, is keen to restore the standards set and see more players transform their game after a lacklustre performance.

Kimanzi made his long-awaited return on Sunday, guiding Wazalendo to their biggest win of the season after demolishing Greensharks 5-2 in the  Premier League match at the City Park Stadium.

This was Wazalendo's first win in seven matches. The team had drawn thrice and lost as many matches to automatically rule out the South 'B' based side from the title race.

"I think the players understand my plan. They know I want them to play with intensity and an attractive brand of hockey. The idea is to try to motivate them and push them to their limits."

"The team had lost a bit of their identity but I believe the short time I  have been with the players in training, everybody now looks aligned. We don't look at results but the idea is to develop players with the capacity to don national colours as well as grab a chance to play international hockey."

Kimanzi insists he won't last long in the role and is keen to transition the young coaches and leave the team in a safe pair of hands.

"I haven't taken anybody's role but we are keen to build capacity in terms of coaches coming through. My coming back was to rectify what we didn't do right and get the decisions correct. So, there should be no disconnect."

Wazalendo moved to fourth with 19 points although they have played one game less. The top two teams namely; Butali Warriors and Western Jaguars were not in action while Kenya Police remained third after a goalless draw with Mombasa Sports Club.

MSC languish at the bottom of the 10-team league with six points after managing another point against USIU-A Mashujaa.

Champions in waiting Strathmore Scorpions lead the women's standings with 25 points. Spartans' 0-0 drab draw with Blazers was their fifth match without a win.
