The Directorate of Criminal Investigation volleyball team are banking on their superior head-to-head record to cruise into the finals of the annual Nyerere Cup when they face off Tanzania's Magereza in semis today in Arusha.

The Sleuths maintained a 100 percent record to cruise into the last four. In the five-team pool, the Daniel Bor-coached side is yet to lose a set. They convincingly won against Geshi Stars, Star Girls, Young Spikers and Chui by an identical 3-0 scoreline.

DCI have won the past three editions of the tournament. The defending champions have slayed Magereza in past meetings and Bor doesn't expect the trend to change today against their familiar foes.

"We start as favorites owing to the record but that doesn't give room for complacency. We are at a crucial stage that requires focus because the aim is to retain our prestigious gong," the talent-nurturing maniac put on record.

He added: "Most of the players doing service for Magereza are Kenyans whom we know very well and it won't be an easy assignment as such. We need to go the extra mile, play normally but with caution."

Bor has welcomed the selection headache he is facing after both the new and old players impressed in the Tanzanian capital. The gaffer said being spoilt for choice is a good problem since all his players can perform when needed.

"All my players have given me food for thought. It will be difficult to leave some players out of the starting lineup but again not all can play. It is a good problem that further enhances competition within the squad."

He added: "Carolyne Sirengo and Marion Indeche have shown maturity since returning from their unsuccessful spells at Kenya Pipeline and KCB respectively and remain integral to the group."

Meanwhile, the Kenya Volleyball Federation has called for a technical meeting on October 22 to conduct a draw and registration of teams for the 2022/23 season.

KVF also intend to start a Division Two men's league. The meeting will also deliberate on the ladies' pending preliminary matches plus their playoff.
