FINA representatives will meet Swimming stakeholders at Moi Stadium,  Kasarani next week to chart the way forward in resolving matters which have bedeviled the sport.

In a circular signed by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) secretary general, Francis Mutuku, the meeting will be held at Stadion Hotel on October 6 from 2:30 pm.

The meeting will be addressed by FINA representatives including the African President Mr. Sam Ramsamy.

The officials are expected to brief the stakeholders on FINA's requirements for Kenya to get back to normalcy as far as swimming is concerned.

As it is, Kenyan swimmers have been gracing events but not under the Kenyan flag and stakeholders are currently pushing for change.

Mutuku, who is a member of the FINA Stabilisation Committee, said the  aim of the meeting is to build consensus on the contentious issues which have plagued the sport.

He said they also want to set the roadmap for the elections which should be held at the end of the year.

“The Stakeholders' engagement will be the first step in addressing some of the concerns they have and at the same time hear what FINA have to say on the matter,” added Mutuku.

Mutuku pointed out that long-term solutions to the sport will only be found in the sport.

“ At the end of the day, it's swimming stakeholders who know where the shoe pinches and I'm asking for sobriety and goodwill from all involved to sort out the challenges we have in the sport,” added Mutuku.

The committee is running day-to-day operations for swimming in the country until the end of December when polls will be held.

Kenya was suspended indefinitely by FINA in April after failing to conduct elections in the last two years despite passing a new constitution last year.

Fina executive director, Brent Nowicki, said they have been forced to come up with the Stabilization Committee following repeated failure by KSF to hold elections in accordance with FINA rules.
