Sensational Zetech University Sparks will take on reigning champions Kenya Ports Authority in a tough Kenya National Basketball League (KNBL) tie in Mombasa on Saturday.

This match is expected to be explosive, pitting two of the only unbeaten teams in the top tier. It tips off at Makande Welfare Hall at 2 pm.

The students are second on the log with 12 points from six wins while the host tops the log, having garnered 16 points from eight ties. Sparks' coach Maurice Obilo said his charges will give the game their best shot despite not having trained well.

“Because of the weather, we have had only three light sessions but we will go out there and try our best,” said Obilo.

On the other hand, KPA coach Anthony Ojukwu welcomed the fixture, saying it will really test the girls ahead of the FIBA Africa Zone Five show in Tanzania.

“It has come at a good time for me. There is no doubt Zetech will offer proper competition ahead of the tournament,” He noted.

The KPA trio of captain Natalie Akinyi, Rita Aluoch and Jemimah Knight will lead the charge against Christine Akinyi-led students.

In the men’s category, Zetech University Titans will also be away to leaders KPA after their 80-60 win over Equity Bank.

The varsity side coach Job Munene said he has no major injuries so far and that being an away game, his boys must give a good account.

At the Nyayo, former champions Ulinzi Warriors return to square it off with Umoja. The soldiers lost their last fixture, going down to Equity Bank and will be seeking to make amends.

On Sunday, Storms who have also won only one of their five matches square off against Strathmore University Swords.

Giant killers Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks play wounded Equity Bank who suffered an 80-60 loss at the hands of KPA.

“We resumed training but not all the players are around—like half the team. It’s ok! We have two days to work on a few things and God willing, we will be ready for the game,” said ANU’s coach Mike Oluoch.

He went on: “Equity is a very strong team and so we have alot of work to do in a very short time.”

Meanwhile, four lower division matches slated for Nyayo on Saturday have been moved due to the unavailability of the venue between 8am and 1 pm.
