Trans-Nzoia Falcons attacking midfielder Violet Wanyonyi has signed a one-year contract with  Moroccan top-tier club, Municipal de Laayoune.

The former Vihiga Queens' loanee, who impressed in the inaugural 2021 CAF Women's Champions League, has been on Municipal de Laayoune's radar since March when she went for trials.

Falcons coach Justine Okiring is relieved the chase has come to an end with Wanyonyi expected to jet out of the country today to seal her dream move. "We wish her well as she actualises her dream," Okiring remarked.

"She will always be welcomed back at Falcons because she has been central to our achievements. My wish is to see more players join professional ranks. It calls for hard work and determination and her exit has created room for others to showcase their skills."

Vihiga wanted to turn Wanyonyi's loan deal permanent last year but no agreement was struck. The wing wizard scored

four goals in the inaugural Cecafa Club Champions League qualifiers held in Nairobi in September 2021.

The Bishop Njenga alumnus scored one of the two goals that Vihiga managed in Egypt as they exited the Women's Champions League in the group stage.

The Bungoma county native scored against Morocco's ASFAR in Queens' 2-0 win, lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundown’s of South Africa before the humiliating 4-0 defeat to Nigeria's Rivers Angels.

In the meantime, Okiring confirmed the Kitale-based side has bolstered their squad with nine new signings.

The players, mostly drawn from schools, include defenders Elizabeth Mukhwana, Purity Nalulu, Catherine Ambesi and Hilda Achayo. Others are midfielders Phelister Sabuti, Rose Hayuki, Vivian Wabwile and striker Ann Achieng.

Valentine Cherop who missed action last season due to ill health is raring to go this season with the Falcons taking on Wadadia in Mumias in the league opener on September 28.

Ball-playing defender Esther Uhuru  has joined Nakuru Queens while more departures are expected as Okiring hopes to trim his squad.

On new signings he said: "We looked at age and players who can improve our team. The juniors are talented and it's their time to prove themselves in the top tier."

"We will rotate the squad to grant everyone playing time and at the same time introduce the unpredictability element. Fatigue and injuries creep in as the season wears on and so we factored that too."
