Butali Warriors striker Festus Onyango hopes to continue his imperious scoring form against Greensharks as the Kenya Hockey Union League resumes this weekend.

The national men's league has been on recess since July — paving way for general elections.

The women's cadre, on the other hand, has had a four-month recess which, allowed the national women's team to participate at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Onyango has scored 10 goals in the last six seasons against the Victor Osiche-captained side when he turned up for Strathmore Gladiators and the sugar millers.

"Greensharks are an opponent I enjoy scoring against and I hope this Saturday will be no different," the maverick forward said.

Onyango, however, presumed past record won't matter provided Butali win the contest he predicts won't be a walk in the park.

"Each game is different and the goals I scored are now history. Sharks are a dangerous team with the quality to upset the big guns on their day and we should not take them lightly."

"We must approach the game like any other but with caution. We have trained well, played friendly matches and hope to bag maximum points."

Butali lead the standings with 23 points, one better off Kenya Police. Returnees Mombasa Sports club remain bottom of the 10-team league after garnering a solitary point in nine matches.

Onyango 25, joined Butali in the 2020 season, before the Covid-19 enforced break.

Onyango scored four goals during the Olympic qualifiers in 2019. He has been consistent in the local league, scoring a minimum of 18 goals per season for Strathmore Gladiators between 2016 and 2019 before sealing his dream move to Butali.

He was part of the 2016 Gladiators' title-winning team and was reunited with former Stratmore players at Butali, including captain Constant Wakhura, George Mutira and Tristin Karis.

Despite the long break which comes with rustiness, Onyango said there will be no excuses for the defending champions.

"It's about results and we cannot use the lack of action as a scapegoat," he said."
