Hart leads Team Kenya to FINA World junior event in Peru

Hart will have Masinde Johari for company in the boys category with Bianca Jamal and Lubaina Ali entered in the girls category. Abdulmalik Abdulkarim will be the team manager for the four day event.

Ivan Hart will lead a four-man Kenyan team to the FINA World Junior Swimming Championship slated for August 30 to September 4 in Peru.

Hart will have Masinde Johari for the company in the boys' category with Bianca Jamal and Lubaina Ali entered in the girls' category. Abdulmalik Abdulkarim will be the team manager for the four-day event.

The swimmers were selected based on the FINA points accrued from various events with Hart amassing 597 points and Johari on 535 points.

In the girls' category, Lubaina has 577 points and Bianca 556. 

The swimmers will participate under a neutral flag as Kenya is currently suspended by the world governing body, FINA.

The championship was initially slated for August last year in Kazan, Russia but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic with the world governing body changing the venue to Peru in April owing to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February.

KSF Stabilisation Committee chairman, Francis Mutuku, said preparations for Kenyan swimmers are almost complete.

“We are sorting out the visas and by the end of the week, we hope they can travel to the competition and do the country proud,” added Mutuku.

Mutuku said the e eagerly awaited meeting between the stakeholders, FINA and government representatives will be held in two weeks. 

“We hope in the next fortnight we can have the meeting between the stakeholders FINA and the government if all goes well," added Mutuku.
