THE Miss Kenya beauty pageant has initiated a programme to plant 10 million trees in 10 years across the country.

In partnership with Climate Pal Ltd., the franchise has adapted the Twende Green Initiative with an aim of restoring the country’s forest cover. The programme will start in Makueni and Embu Counties.

“Miss Kenya beauty pageant surpasses the superficial search for a beautiful girl and goes beyond to find a young lady that is empathetic, informed; a young leader that is conscious about the environment we live in, seeks social good and promotes values and good living in general among peoples of the region and the world around. We have a clear conscience that the causes we have chosen to represent are not only valid but timely,” said franchise production director Tony Chirah, during the launch of this year’s edition in Nairobi.

This year, three beauty queens will be crowned, namely: Miss Kenya-Earth, Miss Kenya-Grand International and Miss Kenya-International. Entries for the event are open until June 10, with the gala set for August 1.
