The India Republic Day honours the date on which the constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

In Kenya, the 67th Republic Day was marked with a reception at the Nairobi residence of the Indian High Commissioner Suchitra Durai on Tuesday morning.

The ceremony included a performance by the Kenbharati music group followed the high commissioner reading a speech on behalf of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

The main message in the speech was the need to strengthen economical relationships between Kenya and India, for the mutual benefit of all citizens.

In attendance were deputy chief justice Kalpana Rawal and Eritrea ambassador Beyene Russom.
