Margaret Kenyatta opens Karura Forest Centre

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Sunday afternoon visited Karura Forest where she inaugurated an educational auditorium meant to create awareness for environmental conservation efforts in the country.

Named Karura Forest Environmental Education Centre (KFEEC), the auditorium will help school going children learn about the ecosystem. Speaking at the event, the First Lady said she wanted to continue the legacy of the late environmentalist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai. "We need to embrace the environmental wonder."

Others who attended the event included cabinet secretary Judy Wakhungu, KFS director David Mbugua, chairman Peter Kirigwa, FKF chairman Karanja Njoroge, late Wangari Maathai's daughter Wanjira, patron of the Friends of Karura Alice Macaire and Belgium ambassador to Kenya Bart Ouvry.
