An airtime recharge App beat over 80 technology innovations to emerge top during the weeklong Nairobi Innovation Week at the University of Nairobi.

Dubbed Ocharge, the app that rewards users with discount vouchers and deals from local top brands every time they top up their mobile phones with airtime floored innovations from global brand Samsung, mobile service provider Safaricom, Barclays Bank and technology company IBM.

“OCharge has innovatively made airtime recharge bring more value to something people do everyday,” said Tonny Omwansa, chairman, Nairobi Innovation Week.

The forum brought to focus how ideas translate into profitable ventures. President Uhuru Kenyatta said the government will increase annual funding to support new inventions and the annual exhibition by Sh100 million.

Launched in July, Ocharge is powered by Oliza (), a consumer internet company, which aims to redefine consumer internet business in Africa. The company is backed by iSON Group, a global leader in BPO services.
