The education sector in Kenya is growing by the day. Every child in Kenya is entitled to good education and the skills that come with it. The government is doing what they can to broaden the chances of every child having an opportunity of getting adequate information in terms of books, either through eBooks or hard copy. With the right kind of group boosting education everywhere, then many students will have the privilege of studying comfortably and in a conducive environment.

InterContinental Nairobi last week signed an agreement with Strathmore University that will enable the students from the University and hotel staff benefit through mutual technical support.

The main purpose of the agreement is to establish a framework of cooperation and exchange of technical assistance in formulation, implementation and support in research and training. The agreement was signed at Strathmore University on the same day (August 20).

The agreement will see both their staff and students benefit in terms of training and internship opportunities. The five-year renewable agreement will see hotel staff receive latest training in tourism and hospitality management from Strathmore University

“Our aim is to develop dedicated professionals with university qualifications that are internationally recognized and highly regarded. Among the roles we will play in this partnership is to create a management/student and lecture internship program, through which we will offer placements for the best students,” said InterContinental Nairobi General Manager Dieter O. Franke.

He added that the hotel will also collaborate with the university in designing customised industry programs that align the institutional needs with the overall hospitality industry needs, thus bridging the gap between theory education and practical work.

According to Strathmore University’s Dean School of Management and Commerce Dr David Wangombe said, the partnership with InterContinental Nairobi will greatly enable the university meet its objective of providing holistic teaching to its students.
