Those of us who have oven cookers at home have probably wondered what the compartment at the bottom of the cooker is used for.
It may seem like a good enough place to store baking pans, but that also feels like wasted space.
It turns out the drawer underneath the ovens does not serve a specific purpose.
“I use my oven drawer to store baking trays and some baking equipment, so it is basically just storage for me,” Jackie Kanini, the home chef told the Star on Wednesday.
“To be quite honest, my oven drawer is as empty as it came,” Joe Kamau, 24, said.
“I googled a couple of uses for the drawers, and it did not make sense to me. They should just extend the whole oven, it’s just a waste of space.”
While most people utilize the oven drawer for storage, some people recommend using the space to keep hot food warm, if you are using the oven above it.
According to tasty tables, they say space gets fairly warm and the bottom drawer could be used as a food warmer.
“On holidays and those special days that you are hosting a large group of people, you can stick dishes in the drawer when you finish cooking,” they say.
“However, it may or may not warm depending on the oven type. You are lucky, if your oven has control buttons within the drawer itself, if not, you can never lack an option.”
However, we are advised not to store plastic tools or equipment that can melt in the drawer due to residual heat.
