From the streets of Tiktok and Instagram in 2020, up to now, Bucket hats still remain trendy.

Bucket hats date from 1900 and were traditionally worn by Irish farmers and fishermen as protection from the rain.

The lanolin from the unwashed (raw) wool made the hats naturally waterproof.

Bucket hats peaked in the 2000s, where it was worn by everyone from Jay Z in his "Big Pimpin" video to Nas, Brad Pritt and Britney Spears.

They are still trendy, and it’s one thing you wouldn’t want to miss in your collection.

Charlene Rael, a Kenyan Photographer says she likes bucket hats due to their flexibility and comfort.

“I can wear a bucket hat, whether it is hot or cold, It doesn’t really matter, and also I can rock them on those bad hair days and when am out with my friends,” she told the Star.

Raymond, 24, a student at Kenyatta University said he’s a collector of Bucket hats.

“So far I have 20 plus bucket hats, I like buying mine from Gikomba and also along River Road. I sell a few to friends because they are the in thing right now, at the same time, they are inter-sex, meaning it’s convenient,” Raymond said.

A bucket hat goes for between Sh200 to Sh1,000 depending on where you are buying from.

They can be pulled off with different outfits from Boho, streetwear, guys can pair it with shorts and polo shirt.

Other styles can also be pulled off by the bucket hats, you just have to get a perfect size, get one that fits properly, and goes well with the season.

If it’s hot avoid the fluffy ones keeping an eye on prints and colours too.
