Comedian Chris Rock will not press assault charges against Oscar winner Will Smith.
According to the Daily Mail, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said Rock declined to press charges.
LAPD has however said they will be available for investigation should any party pursue the assault.
On Sunday night at the Oscars, the King Richard actor walked to the stage and stroke presenter Chris Rock.
This was after the presenter joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s cropped hair.
“Jada, I love you. ‘G. I Jane 2, can’t wait to see it, all right?”
To initiate a better audience reception, Rock added, "that was a nice one!”
This prompted an eye roll from the Red Table Talk host and a sour look from Smith.
In 2021, Jada took to Instagram to tell of her alopecia condition. This is an autoimmune condition that leads to hair loss.
Smith got from his seat to the stage where he slapped Rock so hard, the impact was heard in the microphone.
This left the audience and viewers stunned.
Rock tried to lighten the moment by acknowledging how Smith had smacked him.
Back at his seat, Smith shouted to Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f….ing mouth!”
Rock responded that it was just a G.1 joke, which had Smith reiterating his demand.
Later on, Smith won an Oscar for Best Actor.
In his speech, he apologized to the Academy saying love makes one do crazy things.
