Makhonge Secondary School principal Musa Wanzala in Kabuchai constituency, Bungoma county, has attributed poor results in sciences in the school to the lack of laboratories.
Wanzala urged Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, governor and the Education ministry to help the school build a laboratory that will help students carry science practicals so that their performance is improved.
“The trick with science is that the teacher should go further and contact lab tests with students so that they can grasp the content well and see what is taught theoretically practically,” he said.
He said the school is also unable to participate in science congress and compete with other schools because they lack a place to carry on their research.
“I think if area leaders intervene and help us put up laboratory science then as a school we can also join the top giant schools in presenting innovative projects at the engineering fair contests,” he said.
Wanzala lauded MP Majimbo for supporting the school in building of the new classrooms and payment of fees for bright but needy students from Kabuchai constituency, urging parents to support their learners with all necessary needs.
He said the school is prepared to receive Form 1 students, and that all strategies are in place to ensure syllabus coverage is done on time, arguing that late syllabus coverage has its own consequences.
On the other hand, Friends Secondary School Musa Obura decried poor payment of fees, saying that late payment of fees hurts service delivery.
