Former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga has no capacity to unseat incumbent Wilber Ottichilo, Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi has said.

He said Akaranga had all the resources while in office to retain the seat but he handed it to Ottichilo.

Agoi addressed the press at Vihiga resource centre on Sunday.

The Sabatia MP urged his supporters to ignore social media rumours of him stepping down for Akaranga.

Agoi is eyeing the governor position on the ANC ticket, while Akaranga is seeking to reclaim the seat he lost in 2017. He is running on the Progressive Party of Kenya ticket.

Agoi addressed the press after letters circulated on social media alleging that he had stepped down for Akaranga.

He said that would be a waste of time.

“How can I step aside for someone who gave out the seat willingly to someone else?” Agoi asked.

“If it's money and  machinery, Akaranga had them, but he failed to clinch the seat.”

Previously word had gone round on social media that Akaranga had stepped down for Agoi, which the former governor dismissed.

Agoi accused UDP governor aspirant George Khaniri of contributing to the county's problems by failing to play his oversight role.

“Khaniri was elected as the Vihiga county senator twice; he can't come here to tell us how the two governors have failed to deliver when he failed to keep them on [their] toes,” he said.

Agoi said Khaniri should have ensured residents received quality services.

Khaniri is also eyeing the position.

Others in the race include Patrick Saisi of The Equitable Party and former Speaker Kenneth Marende of DAP-K.
