Homa Bay governor aspirant Evans Kidero has said he was not invited to a meeting chaired by ODM leader Raila Odinga which resolved on giving Gladys Wanga a direct ticket.

Kidero said his colleagues were afraid of facing him in the ODM primaries after they sensed defeat.

He was among the aspirants competing for the ODM ticket.

ODM conducted its Homa Bay primaries on April 14.

Aspirants who attended the meeting were Suba South MP John Mbadi, Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata, former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga and former county secretary Isaiah Ogwe.

Others were Kuppet secretary general Akelo Misori and Governor Cyprian Awiti.

Kidero and businessman Louis Ogingo were absent.

Speaking at Pala market in Kabuoch South ward, Ndhiwa constituency, on Sunday Kidero asked residents to elect him as governor due to the development plans he has.

The former Nairobi governor has since gone independent as he prepares to succeed Awiti.

Governor Awiti is serving his second and final term after he was elected in 2013.

During the consensus, Magwanga was chosen as Wanga's running mate.

Kidero told residents to go for personalities instead political parties.

“Homa Bay people must be vigilant on the person they want to succeed Awiti. Vote Raila Odinga for president and Kidero as governor,” he said.

Kidero also asked Governor Awiti to stop meddling in the succession politics saying he has had his time.

“Homa Bay is ailing because its leadership had no agenda. Awiti must not dictate to us the person he wants to succeed him,” Kidero said.

Kidero pledged to transform Homa Bay should he get elected.

He assured them of forming an inclusive and accountable government.

Kidero was accompanied by Ogingo, businessman Enosh Bolo, former MCA Patricia Ouma and politicians Elijah Kodo, Ogutu Kale and Jack Nduri,

“As you leader, I will account for every shilling spent,” he said.

Ogingo said Kidero will develop Homa Bay people.

“As Ndhiwa people we'll vote for a person who can bring factories and improve roads. We must rectify Homa Bay in the election,” he said.

Kale warned politicians who take residents for granted saying they will not be used as a rubber stamp.

“We're going for a track record,” Kale said.
