Former US president Donald Trump has announced that he will be contesting for the presidency in 2024.

This came shortly after he submitted his papers to the Federal Election Commission.

While speaking at his Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump said that he intends to make America glorious again.

"In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for the president of the United States," he said

With the announcement, he is aiming to become only the second US president ever elected to two non-consecutive terms.

Trump was elected the 45th US president after he defeated then Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.

He however, lost to Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the subsequent election.

Biden was Obama's vice president for two terms.
