81% of Kenyans in support of Raila's bid for AU chair job –Survey

81 per cent of Kenyans are in support of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga's bid for African Union (AU) Chairperson, a report states.

In a poll by Infotrak Research and Consulting released on Thursday, only 16 per cent of Kenyans were not in support of the Azimio boss's bid for the post.

According to the survey, Nairobi, Rift Valley and Nyanza regions gave the highest support at 88, 85 and 83 per cent respectively.

This was compared to the lowest support of 64 per cent from the Northeastern region.

Western region supported the bid at 79 per cent, Central and Coast at 78 per cent while Easter at 77 per cent.

"By gender, the support base is high amongst females. In terms of age the youth seem to have great support for this move," the survey says.

The Infotrak survey shows that 84 per cent of females support Raila's bid for the contest while only 79 per cent of males are for the move.

According to Infotrak, those aged 27 to 35 supported Raila's bid for the AU job at 84 per cent against those aged 18 to 26 who supported him at 75 per cent.

The survey was conducted on March 8 to 9 2024.

The sampling frame was designed using Population Proportionate to Size (PPS) guided by the 2019 Census.

The survey covered all the 47 counties and 8 regions of Kenya.

To ensure national representativeness, the distribution of the survey sample across the regions was proportionately allocated, it had a 3.099 per cent at 95 per cent degree of confidence.
