The Kenya National Highways Authority has reopened Nairobi-Garissa Road.

The road was closed on Monday following flooding at Mororo area between Madogo and Tana River Bridge.

It was closed again on Tuesday due to flooding at Arer Area, between Bangaley and Madogo.

According to the authority, the flooding at Arer has damaged the road and the previous diversion route.

KeNHA announced through their official handle on Wednesday that the road had been reopened after initial repairs were completed.

"KeNHA is pleased to announce the re-opening of the Nairobi - Garissa (A3) Road. Sections of this Road were temporarily closed due to flooding at Arer and Mororo areas," read the notice.

"The Authority has undertaken initial repairs and made the washout areas accessible to motorists," it added.

However, KeNHA has advised road users to be cautious when approaching the affected sections.

Specifically, motorists are urged to be careful near Arer area on Bangali - Madogo Road and Mororo area on Madogo - Garissa Road.

Additionally, the authority has appealed to motorists to avoid driving through fast-moving water.

"The Authority extends gratitude to road users for their patience and cooperation during the closure period and appeals to motorists to continuously adhere to road safety guidelines," KeNHA noted.

The authority had closed the road due to flooding as a result of the ongoing rains which have occasioned rising water levels of Tana River.

The flooding at Mororo had compromised one lane of the road, posing a high safety risk to the road users.

Most parts of the country are currently experiencing enhanced rainfall with a high propensity to cause flash floods.

Authorities like the Red Cross and the Meteorological Department have advised residents in flood-prone areas to move to higher safer grounds to avert tragedy and loss of life.

The floods have rendered roads impassable in some areas.

The humanitarian organisation advised against walking or driving through flood waters.

The weatherman has said that the heavy rains are expected to continue in most parts of the country.
