Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that he is ready and willing to work with Mount Kenya elders for the sake of unity

During an interview with Inooro TV on Sunday, Gachagua emphasized his openness to working alongside elders from the region to heal the mountain after the outcome of the 2022 general election.

"I am extending my hand to the esteemed elders of Mount Kenya, including former Starehe MP Maina Kamanda, among others," Gachagua affirmed.

He revealed plans for multiple meetings with leaders aimed at fostering unity within the region, emphasizing the necessity for a collective voice to drive development.

"I will continue working with the elders and experienced political leaders, religious leaders, and all other leaders across the political divide," Gachagua said.

Addressing the issue of drug abuse and illicit brew in the Mount Kenya area, Gachagua disclosed his collaboration with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to wipe out the vice in the region and across the country.

The Deputy President said the fight against illicit brew will be successful noting that a new Bill will be introduced in Parliament to add impetus to the fight against the menace.

"We are having a Bill that will be tabled in Parliament that will require all cars transporting alcohol branded and no private vehicle will be used to carry the alcohol, "Gachagua said.

Gachagua emphasized the shared responsibility of all citizens in combating drug-related issues, citing personal experiences of losing two brothers to alcohol addiction as motivation for his unwavering commitment to the cause.

He noted that every individual in the country has the responsibility to fight illicit brew and substance abuse.
