Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria are set to share a podium at the Kinoru Stadium in Meru on Saturday.

Kuria and Gachagua will meet at the Moses Kuria Peace Tournament.

Gachagua, who will be the chief guest will be accompanied by Mount Kenya governors, senators and MPs.

The unexpected collaboration comes amidst tensions between the two political figures.

The event is expected to attract attention due to the political dynamics at play.

During artist Jose Gatutura's event in Ruiru last month,  Kuria said he will be traverse Mount Kenya and engage youths in sporting activities.

He said the peace tournament is aimed at preaching peace and fighting drug abuse.

Kuria also praised Gachagua's fight against illicit alcohol and drug abuse.

"I would like to appreciate DP Gachagua for his continuous fight against illicit brew and drugs in Mount Kenya. We will join hands as Kenya Kwanza to combat this menace," he said.

Gachagua has visited Embu and Laikipia counties in the past four days.

The meetings are to unite Mount Kenya after the 2022 general election.

On Monday, Gachagua warned youthful leaders against being used to divide the region.

He reminded them of historical political divisions that cost the community.

The division contributed to the community losing to former President Moi.

Gachagua said the community is backing President William Ruto fully for mutual benefit and progress.

Political analyst Albert Kasembeli said the Saturday appearance is a strategic move with far-reaching implications.

"Mount Kenya, being a political powerhouse, requires a united front and the collaboration between Gachagua and Kuria could signify a shift towards a more cohesive and formidable political force in the region ahead of the next election," he said.

"The political dynamics of Mount Kenya are pivotal for any party aiming to secure a substantial mandate in the upcoming elections. A united front will not only strengthen their influence in the region but also present a more appealing image to voters."

Kasembeli said Gachagua, Kuria’s relationship will likely continue to draw attention.

Former Ichagaki MCA said there are broader implications if Gachagua and Kuria find a common ground.

"Mount Kenya has diverse interests and a fractured political landscape can be detrimental. Gachagua and Kuria recognising the need for unity is a step in the right direction. It's essential for the sake of stability and effective representation," he said.

Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga on Monday urged Mount Kenya leaders to unite and shun their political differences for growth and prosperity.

He said there is no harm when the people of Mount Kenya meet to discuss pressing issues.

“When Mount Kenya leaders meet to talk, you will start to hear people complaining but when Luhyas do so, no one complains, we must unite for the region's unity and growth," he said.

The Gema Council of Elders recently pledged unwavering support for Gachagua's determined efforts to foster unity within the Mount Kenya region, emphasising the pivotal role of cohesion in promoting development and stability.

In an exclusive interview with the Star, Gema chairman Bishop Lawi Imathiu, underscored the non-negotiable importance of unity in Mount Kenya.

"The unity of Mount Kenya is not an option; it is an imperative that must be honored and upheld," he said.

The endorsement from Gema came as a powerful affirmation of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's quest to transcend political divides and unite the region.
