Information and Communication Technology Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has mourned veteran journalist Rita Tinina who died on Sunday.
Owalo said he was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of Kenya’s outstanding journalists.
The police found her dead in her house in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.
"I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ms Tinina’s family, friends, NMG colleagues and the entire media fraternity during this difficult time," he said.
The CS said that Tinina’s contributions to journalism were invaluable, and she will be remembered for her dedication to truth, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence in reporting.
"During this time of mourning, may the loved ones of Tinina find comfort in the knowledge that she made a significant and meaningful contribution to the field of journalism," Owalo said.
He added, "Please accept my deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all."Recently, Tina was a senior reporter at Nation Media Group's NTV having re-joined the Group in October 2023.
Before then, she was a senior reporter at Standard Group's KTN where she started working in 2021.
She had moved to KTN from NMG. Tinina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Media Studies from the University of Nairobi.
Her notable work includes the coverage of then Deputy President William Ruto's trial at the Hague 10 years ago, the government Score Card, the truck explosion at the Karai area in Naivasha and conservation stories including holding an interview on saving elephants.
She also brought to Kenyans the 'Life and Times of Mama Lucy Kibaki', a biography of the former First Lady. Tinina was a mother of one.
